Tip 1. Is your job offer a match for the current market?
Presently it’s a candidate driven market. Yes, chefs lost their roles during the pandemic, but a noteworthy number of qualified chefs left the industry altogether impacting the size of the candidate pool. Skilled and experienced chefs are in high demand. As a consequence there’s a greater need to sell the features and benefits of your role to a candidate.
Check the salary, the benefits and the working conditions that your job offers – are they up to scratch and in-line with the current market?
Consider doing a search for similar jobs being advertised by your competitors to assess what pay, benefits and perks they’re offering. If your job offer is not meeting or exceeding market expectations, it’s unlikely you will get a positive response from the chefs you contact at this particular time.
Tip 2. Concisely highlight and sell the features and benefits of what you’re offering.
The world has a very short attention span. Talk to any advertiser and they will tell you eight seconds is what you’ve got.
We know that you’re excited about bringing a new person into your team, and can speak at length around that. But that’s irrelevant if you’re not catching the eye of the type of chef you’re looking to bring on board.
Think about how you’re summarising the job on offer and whether you’re being clear and concise enough about what it is, why it’s a great opportunity and what you bring to the table as an employer.
Polishing this type of quick pitch is also great to use in the course of a first call or email with a candidate, so you’re marketing the ‘why your job not someone else’s’ quickly, effectively and as best you can.

Tip 3. Pick up the phone. Call first and then direct message.
Message overload. Sound familiar? Calling quickly cuts through a significant number of pain points in the recruitment process. If they answer you can in the course of real time, natural conversation (remember that?!) start to establish their interest, their suitability and your interest and first impressions of a candidate without the delay of conversation via direct message.
If they don’t answer, try calling them a second time, before messaging them. Calling undoubtedly speeds up the establishing suitability for all parties’ process.
In a competitive, candidate driven market it pays to act quickly when you spot someone whose skills and experience could be a match for your team.
Tip 4. Send chefs you want to talk to a message using our chat platform (but also follow up over email)
It’s worth taking the time to draft a standard message that you can use for all the chefs you contact about your job. As discussed earlier make sure that the message is compelling and quickly conveys the key reasons why they should get in contact with you.
